Belpukur - The Village the holy Place
Belpukur, the earlier name “Billapuskarani” is famous as “
Simantadvipa” as part of Nabadwip [9 island of river Ganga] is the holy place. It is adjacent to
Kirtan Capital Of The World Sri Mayapur, the birthplace of Shree Chaitanya dev. Disciples of vaishnava from home land India as well followers in Russia, UK, USA, Australia, Ireland and several other European Latin American and even African countries traveling to visit the 1400 years old idol of Sri Madan Gopal at Belpukur every year. it is said the same idol was been worshiped by grandpa of Sri Caitanya as well the god himself. It is an amazing place of holiness. The village is Culm and full with natural beauty and life.
One Sri Ramthakur forms the village several years ago. It was divided in several part called as “Para” depends on the engagements of people in different works in the society. Bidyalanker Para, Churamoni Para, Majher Pra, Muhuri Para, Sarke Para, Kumor Pra, Sarder Pra, Rajbag Para, and jele Para etc. Most of the people in the village are engaged in farming, fishing, small business [mostly local business] and educated are in service in different Government and private organizations beyond the village. The village Belpukur is an example of real harmony among communities is beyond appreciation. The bonding that was created by its elders several years ago until continuing. Anyone who ever visited the place during Kali puja will be fascinated by experiences the harmony among people.
Although the village is famous for attachment of Sri Chaitanya but most the villagers are shakti Upasak[worshiper] instead vaisnava. People of the village are more inclined to worship Maa Kali as their Gods. During Kali Puja on the auspicious day of Diwali in the country, more or less every house in the village brings idols of Gods Ma Kali and performed worship with Tantric system of Shakti Aradhana. Day by day some modifications of behavioral changes may occur. Like most the hoses are stopped sacrificing [Balidan] of goat is a significant changes. Kali Puja is the local festival for this tiny village. All the members of each family used to come during this time to enlighten the village.
